Technology-Facilitated Sexual Violence

In this generation, it is extremely uncommon for anyone at almost any age to be in possession of some type of technological device. Technology is constantly progressing and becomes more and more prevalent in everyday life. A lot of the new tools and uses for technology is extremely helpful, but the advanced skills can also allow people to cause danger and harm to others.

This article talks primarily about criminal laws in relation to the way they are used when responding to a technology-facilitated sexual violence (TFSV) case. Unfortunately, there is a lack of data on how prevalent these online forms of sexual harassment are because such little is known about someone who is operating from behind a computer screen. We typically can not easily find out information such as their gender, age, or cause of their behaviors. It is also difficult because photos/videos that may be released can get into the hands of anyone around the world in a matter of seconds. Discussed is the idea that TFSV is primarily an issue of gender, which I very much agree with.

Of course, this type of sexual harassment can occur towards males as well, but it is fundamentally more of a problem with female victims. I believe that this affects females more because males tend to "slut-shame" women more so than a woman would do to a male.

Criminal lawyers can work with victims of TFSV in order to give them the justice they deserve against the mysterious perpetrators of these crimes. It is obvious to many people in the law enforcement business that this issue is a growing problem. The issue is so widespread, and the initial perpetrator can often be impossible to trace back to after the image/video is re-posted or sent out among millions of people.
